The Devil Island Project

On my links category on my blog, there's a link that goes to the Devil island project page. This page was very interesting to me and had alot of features on it. There was information on the people volunteering to help save the Tasmanian devils, their progress on the projects, and up to date news on the subject. This organization has bought many acres on islands for the Tasmanian Devils to live on without having a way of beign infected with the disease that is already killing so much of the once large and wild population. They have built a fence of the sort that can keep these Devils in and give them the home that pratically lived in before. Tasmanian Devils are being observed very closely and are showing different signs in their behavoir. Ones that are infected are being monitored and treated. Scientists take samples from the tumours and try to make a cure out of the research they have done. Some Devils have been monitored to see if any had an immunity to the disease. One link I have tells about one devil that was thought to be immune to it, til he had to be put down because tumours started to spread into the lungs...

The what, who, when, where, how............

Ok so my partner and I have finally actually talked about what we want to do with the game and how we're going to do certain things. The game is still going to be set in Tasmania, Australia, in a big rainforest. The player will be in this part of Tasmania for a while and will learn the ways of the Tassies and a little bit of the cancer. When some Tassies that are infected are caught, then the player will take them to a care facility where the player will learn more about the cancer and how people are treating and trying to find a cure for the poor Tassies and try to stop this from being the entire reason for killing the whole population of the Tassies in Australia. Throughout the game, there will be little things that the player will learn about the Aussies like their government, the culture, and the historical background of Australia. The player should learn a lot of the main topic, the Tassies, and will also learn little things like the government and whatnot. The other characters will be interacting with the player and teaching them things through that way. We decided that the age group would probably be best for 10-13, the tweens! They should be able to do this without any prior knowledge and learn alot from this.

My first scene

I finally got started on my first scene. We brainstormed alot on what this game can really be about. It'll be kind of hard for me to get the artwork because in Tasmania, where this game is taking place, it's heavily forested and would be pretty hard for me to draw up. And I really don't know how to draw a tasmanian devil either. I barely knew how to make the desk look a little like it was 3d! I had to have someone else help me with that! It isn't too good that my art sense is so bad! But hopefully I'll be able to draw something up that doesn't look too bad. Then we have the coding which we both can do rather well, except now that I've started the coding, I have almost no clue and I can't really understand the tutorial too well. I can't just try to watch what they do and pick it up off the computer, but when someone actualy does it in front of me and shows me exactly what to do!!! gr!!!

Still beginning.

I'm still kind of at the beginning... I got my title page and my about page but I have to figure out how to use a button to navigate me from the title page to the about page, back to the title page and to the first scene, whenever I get that accomplished. This game is kind of hard starting off. I still can't think of what all to put in the first scene and what not..... So that's kind of what's got me stuck. When I get everything figured out, the rest should be easy. And i guess I won't be the one in charge of the whole coding thing since Rayce got through the whole thing rather quickly. So now I got to think of some new things for me to do. I know I got the research, I just need the game play to actually come to me..........

Im Stuck.........

I'm kind of stuck now on what I'm going to do with my first scene. I'm not quite sure about this..... I can't really imagine my game quite yet. So yeah, I'm really suck. I got my about page and the tittle page, but I don't exactly know what I want to do for the rest of the game. I absolutely can't draw or trace or anything. And I'm not sure if I want to have an action character or no character. So I don't know how this is going to turn out. My partner wasn't here and I could probably use help with this part. So I did look at some tutorials and I think that actually helps me understand it a lot better. So I may be getting good at the coding. Now I just need some creativity! This is the part that I'm lost with....

Starting Off

Well, I actually started on the real tittle page for my game. I hope I'll be able to fix the buttons the way I want! I dont know exactly how that's going to turn out since I'm really not that very good with Flash as is is. I think I'm actually going to be putting some things in the game that show how the Tassies are treated, which involves medical stuff. Which is kinda ironic since I get real sqeemish around that sort of stuff. I usually pass out in the sight of blood, in reality. Movies, it just can't be stuff with surgery. But anyways, this game will hopefully raise awareness of the threat that is picking up more danger over in Tasmania. This should teach the game players about the cancer and how they are treated and what the government is doing to either help or not help the Tasmanian Devils. So this should cover a lot of ground; showing the treatment and what the scientists are doing, what the government is doing, and if this has any impact on the citizens of Tasmania. I really how this turns out to be a fun and educational game that people will actually like and want to play again and again. I hope Rayce, my partner, can help me with the creativity. I haven't played very many games in my lifetime and I don't really know what really makes a game super fun and what not. So if he comes up with some cool things to add, it'll help a lot! I got the research and I'm picking up on the coding, and with him thinking of some creative additions, we outta be set to have a pretty good game.
