Synposis of My Game!

The name of my game is Saving the Tassies. Rayce is my partner and we've been working on getting ideas together so we can start working more into flash. So far, we've gotten the paper prototype done a good bit and have came up with some pretty good ideas. I'm more in charge of research and drawing the paper prototype and even some drawing in flash. Rayce will probably be doing more of the coding and getting the game to actually work. This game is for kids around the ages 10-13. The game doesn't need prior knowledge but does need to be able to understand what is needed to be done. The player will be seeing much of the habitat of the Tasmanian Devils and will see where they live, how they live, and where they're taken when they need to be checked on or treated. The player will win the game by saving Tassies. The player will be learning a lot about the devils and how Australians and the government is either helping or also the cause of the decrease of population in the devils. There won't be much action really, but simple movements and animations and sounds of the devils. This would be able to sell and become popular because of the atmosphere the game will take the players.

12-9-10

Today, I’ve had to make blogs and things through word documents because I’m not very lucky and things like to mess up on me, such as the internet. My partner isn’t here, so I’m going to have to make some things up for the game in the paper prototype. I hope we get done with it soon so I can do more research and draw some scenes a little bit. I think I can do some good things with coding, but I’m not good with the little details through the game, like the mini games. I’m about to go work on the paper prototype and see if I can come up with anything good and interesting to put into the game. I’m definitely not good at drawing anything, on paper or on flash on the computer. If you’re reading this and you know what I want my game to be about, I’m up for any opinions on what to use as mini games throughout the game to make it an interesting game for tweens, which is around 10 and 13 year olds. I guess I’m putting a little bit of everything into the game, like History, government, society, and medical rescue. This game is such a bit variety of things that maybe it is too much. But then again, am I making a simple game, or something a little bit out there? I’m a complicated kind of girl, so I don’t like simple, but what am I really aiming for here?

12-3-10 Paper prototype

We started on the paper prototype and I hope we can figure out things to add to what we’ve done. We need to think of some mini games to put into it but we really don’t have much of an idea of what we should put into the game to make it fun. It took almost 8 or 9 scenes to just get to a mini game spot; now we just need to come up with one to make there. It’s been getting kind of hard to think of some things, and even thinking on snow days, I haven’t gotten any real good ideas…. I don’t know what I’m going to do to make this a good game. So far, we’re giving a good bit of information through the game, but it seems like we’re just making a text book to show someone things about Australia… Although that is a good idea, to make an adventure sort of thing to teach kids things, but it’s just NOT A GAME. I hope we can make something good to enter into the competition.

Drawing in Flash

Today I just worked on getting my first scene done. I drew what I wanted the setting to be, and I think that'll be pretty good. Now I think my partner can take it a little bit better from there once he's caught up a good bit. I need to work on a lot of things before christmas break, because that will be here before I know it of course. I don't really have much to blog about today. So next time I'll make it up by looking at some more things on my wiki. I'm working pretty ok, but I do need some help with again, the creativity part. That's all I need.

The Devil Island Project

On my links category on my blog, there's a link that goes to the Devil island project page. This page was very interesting to me and had alot of features on it. There was information on the people volunteering to help save the Tasmanian devils, their progress on the projects, and up to date news on the subject. This organization has bought many acres on islands for the Tasmanian Devils to live on without having a way of beign infected with the disease that is already killing so much of the once large and wild population. They have built a fence of the sort that can keep these Devils in and give them the home that pratically lived in before. Tasmanian Devils are being observed very closely and are showing different signs in their behavoir. Ones that are infected are being monitored and treated. Scientists take samples from the tumours and try to make a cure out of the research they have done. Some Devils have been monitored to see if any had an immunity to the disease. One link I have tells about one devil that was thought to be immune to it, til he had to be put down because tumours started to spread into the lungs...

The what, who, when, where, how............

Ok so my partner and I have finally actually talked about what we want to do with the game and how we're going to do certain things. The game is still going to be set in Tasmania, Australia, in a big rainforest. The player will be in this part of Tasmania for a while and will learn the ways of the Tassies and a little bit of the cancer. When some Tassies that are infected are caught, then the player will take them to a care facility where the player will learn more about the cancer and how people are treating and trying to find a cure for the poor Tassies and try to stop this from being the entire reason for killing the whole population of the Tassies in Australia. Throughout the game, there will be little things that the player will learn about the Aussies like their government, the culture, and the historical background of Australia. The player should learn a lot of the main topic, the Tassies, and will also learn little things like the government and whatnot. The other characters will be interacting with the player and teaching them things through that way. We decided that the age group would probably be best for 10-13, the tweens! They should be able to do this without any prior knowledge and learn alot from this.

My first scene

I finally got started on my first scene. We brainstormed alot on what this game can really be about. It'll be kind of hard for me to get the artwork because in Tasmania, where this game is taking place, it's heavily forested and would be pretty hard for me to draw up. And I really don't know how to draw a tasmanian devil either. I barely knew how to make the desk look a little like it was 3d! I had to have someone else help me with that! It isn't too good that my art sense is so bad! But hopefully I'll be able to draw something up that doesn't look too bad. Then we have the coding which we both can do rather well, except now that I've started the coding, I have almost no clue and I can't really understand the tutorial too well. I can't just try to watch what they do and pick it up off the computer, but when someone actualy does it in front of me and shows me exactly what to do!!! gr!!!

Still beginning.

I'm still kind of at the beginning... I got my title page and my about page but I have to figure out how to use a button to navigate me from the title page to the about page, back to the title page and to the first scene, whenever I get that accomplished. This game is kind of hard starting off. I still can't think of what all to put in the first scene and what not..... So that's kind of what's got me stuck. When I get everything figured out, the rest should be easy. And i guess I won't be the one in charge of the whole coding thing since Rayce got through the whole thing rather quickly. So now I got to think of some new things for me to do. I know I got the research, I just need the game play to actually come to me..........

Im Stuck.........

I'm kind of stuck now on what I'm going to do with my first scene. I'm not quite sure about this..... I can't really imagine my game quite yet. So yeah, I'm really suck. I got my about page and the tittle page, but I don't exactly know what I want to do for the rest of the game. I absolutely can't draw or trace or anything. And I'm not sure if I want to have an action character or no character. So I don't know how this is going to turn out. My partner wasn't here and I could probably use help with this part. So I did look at some tutorials and I think that actually helps me understand it a lot better. So I may be getting good at the coding. Now I just need some creativity! This is the part that I'm lost with....

Starting Off

Well, I actually started on the real tittle page for my game. I hope I'll be able to fix the buttons the way I want! I dont know exactly how that's going to turn out since I'm really not that very good with Flash as is is. I think I'm actually going to be putting some things in the game that show how the Tassies are treated, which involves medical stuff. Which is kinda ironic since I get real sqeemish around that sort of stuff. I usually pass out in the sight of blood, in reality. Movies, it just can't be stuff with surgery. But anyways, this game will hopefully raise awareness of the threat that is picking up more danger over in Tasmania. This should teach the game players about the cancer and how they are treated and what the government is doing to either help or not help the Tasmanian Devils. So this should cover a lot of ground; showing the treatment and what the scientists are doing, what the government is doing, and if this has any impact on the citizens of Tasmania. I really how this turns out to be a fun and educational game that people will actually like and want to play again and again. I hope Rayce, my partner, can help me with the creativity. I haven't played very many games in my lifetime and I don't really know what really makes a game super fun and what not. So if he comes up with some cool things to add, it'll help a lot! I got the research and I'm picking up on the coding, and with him thinking of some creative additions, we outta be set to have a pretty good game.

Outlaw Riders

I created a new team page. Riders' page

We haven't really talked about who has to do what with the game quiet yet. My partner, Rayce, is new so he's starting close to the beginning. We'll talk about what we're going to do but all I know is that I'm good with the organization of things and doing the research. So maybe he'll be the creative one between us because I'm having a little bit of a hard time to imagine my game and how the set is and everything is going to look like. I don't think Flash is going to be too much of a big deal to deal with.

Saving the Tassies

I got a partner today and I found a game name, Saving the Tassies!!!! I wrote down some game plan notes. I thought of some things to use in the game and figured out what I can do to make it an adventure game. Here's a link that I came across while searching google to make sure I didn't steal any organization names that already exist.

Gathering my ideas......

So today I played around with my wiki and added some more pics. I've been doing some research about the Tasmanian Devil Cancer and what the government is doing to help. I've found interesting facts and all, but now I'm thinking about how I could turn this into a fun and educational game that people would actually want to play and could get some public views. It's kind of hard for me to think of a genre to my game that wuld go along with the topic best. I kind of want to do an adventure game, since I'm definently not allowed to do a quizz game, but I'm not sure how to encorporate everything I want in it so that it'll be an adventure game. I've never dealt with stuff like this ever before, so I've got to try my best to be creative and come up with something good and enjoyable. So until then, I guess I'll brainstorm when I get the chance and do more research and I guess it'll all just come to me in a matter of time. If I get too stuck, then I'll ask around and get an opinion from different people that may help me out to make a game that some type of age group would like.

Done with the MiniGame

SOOO.... I didn't like the minigame too much at first. And I kept getting irratated at it. I was pretty aggitating. So it takes ALOT of patience. The tough part was really figuring out how to type of the code and everything so it understands exactly what you want done. I had a little bit of an arguement with the computer about where the brackets were supposed to go. But i ended up getting a hang of it and figuring out what was going on and what I needed to do. This wasn't too hard, but it'll help me out a good bit for my game now that I knida know how to do it.

First Time With Flash!

Goodness Gracious Golore!!! Flash has already gotten to me! It's something I probably won't be too good at because everything little thing has to be so precise! But I'll just have to have some of my classmates help me and read the tutorials over and over and over again! Once I get this down, then I'll be on my own and have to do all the codes to make up my own game. That'll be fun! Since I'm so complicated, I really can turn the simplest thing into something so complicated.

My game and this cancer

So I've decided to go all out on the Tasmanian Devil facial cancer. I've done some research and have some links to put on here. I think they're pretty interesting and help me with relating the cancer with the news right now. There are some organizations going on right now that are trying to help get rid of this cancer and help the wild population since it's drastically decreasing.

Tazmanian Devils In Australia!

Well, I think Tazmanian devils are cute! They got their name in the 19th century from the way they grunted while feating on a pray. But they are the target of a terrible diseade now known as Tazmanian Devil cancer. Its really contagious and effects many species. This has been the cause of a 70% decline in the population. Here's some pics and links!

This is how the disease effects the face. It creates tumors around the face and mouth, making it hard to eat, making the animal stave.....

Safely using the internet

Internet safety is extremely important. You NEVER under any circumstances want to put anything on the internet that could lead someone to you or get you in trouble. When posting pictures or videos on there, you never want to put something on there that could show someone where you live or where you tend to school. Leaving trails like that on the internet could let someone know how to find you and you don't want some types of people to be able to find you. Another thing is to not put something on the internet you wouldn't want your mama to see! And don't message people and tell them like where you live or anything because that person may not be who you think, remember that some people desguise themselves to be different ages, different peronalities, and even may put their opposite gender! You can't really trust the internet very well, so don't be too forward on the internet and you'll be fine!

Links!

Heres a link to find landscape pics!

The australian sheppard is adorable! I had one a couple years ago named shep!
And now I have the same dogs shown here! Australia has a good few herding dogs!

The leadership program.

I'm finally thinking about exactly what to do with my game. I'm going to send an american teen to Australia to learn about being a leader and everything that Australia is like. I want to drop in things about the culture, history, and the government. I think this will teach the players alot about Ausralia, since there's so much. And to put citizenship into this, I want my character to learn about the citizens, along with the player. I think it will be a good game to come up with to show a variety of the country and teach the player stuff they might want to know. I dropped in a bunch of links under my projects in my wiki page of things I want to explore and put into the game.

What I'm thinking about

Free Trade Agreement
Business Travel to Australia
These are two links that I found that may help me in deciding on what I really want to do with my game. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to come up with a game that would deal with the U.S. and Australia. It's been kind of hard for me to think about it. There's so many things that I love about the country but I'm trying to stay on the civics and news topic. I wanted to put some history in the path of my game, but then the real only thing that these two countries interact with in is trade and business stuff. So I'm still thinking about this, and maybe I'll think of something to do to make this a really good game.

My country, Australia.

So today I did a good bit of research on Australia and I'm stillthinking about what I'm really going to base my game on. I have chose much in perticular, but it'll come to me soon. I might be going a little bit out of topic of Citizenship, but not much. I want to encorporate leadership, history, and citizenship into my game, so the players and get an insight of how Australia is and how our country and Australia are related and different.

Got me an Idea!

So since were in the civics and new knowledge area, I was wanting to do something on citizenship in Australia. I'm interested in the culture, history, and the civics of Australia so I wanted to do some research on the country and use that as my game idea. I'd like to make it kind of an adventure game. I want it to be something fun that will teach players about Australia and how the country is related to and diferent from the U.S. I'm interested in what I can find and how I can turn it into a fun game and teach players about this wide sunject.

Letting my mind wander....

I am thinking about what I'm going to reflect my game on. I was wanting to encorporate history in my game and make it really fun and interesting. I'm not too interested in politics so I will probably be steering away from civics in that way, but I am looking at creating a game that helps the player learn about a different country, like maybe Australia or Egypy, since I'm interested in their culture. I was looking at the stategy games because I might use that as the genre of my game. Nothing is set in stone at all, but these are the ideas I'm thinking about.
I did play a good few games. I really liked this "Pirates of the Preamble" game, because it was a quiz game that tought me some stuff about my country's government history, and it was interesting with all the details of the game.

Brand New!!

So I guess I'm gonna get to learn about flash and how to use it and then i get to take that and turn it into a game that has to do with a common topic like civics or the enviroment. I think this'll be fun for me to play all sorts of games and learn what other people take from the world.
